In a way, to speak exclusively in terms of personal guilt confuses the second order, the theoretical consideration of sin with what is in fact morally & psychologically first order

A benefit of the metaphysical register is that goods emerge in & thru a spatio-temporal order, & so once you have failed to effect a good at a time & at a place that God intended you to, you can’t, as a matter of being, actually undo that, even if it’s significance can be changed after the fact

Like, those goods were supposed to be there and I was supposed to affect them and now they’re… missing.

In a sense, that’s the role that invoking the divine intention of the cosmic order plays: breaking the immanent relationship with God, reality, myself as an agent, the solidarity of human being, and the particular human beings who I have deprived of those goods in my corner of the universe

So, I’m thinking in utterly metaphysical terms: the failure of a free agent to do the good that was their responsibility to effect, where the assignment of responsibility is in the divine intending of the cosmic order as a whole.

I think so yes! The distinction is absolutely scholastic/academic. I’m just trying to keep control of the fine technical particulars bc I see how slippery the fights get when you don’t have it
