A spent SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage is expected to impact the Moon at ~5,400 mph on Wed Aug 5 ~2:35 AM EDT. The impact itself will be at the upper left limb (edge) of the Moon, near the Einstein Crater, and is not expected be visible to the naked eye, nor small telescopes (via @rtphokie.bsky.social)

The situation we’re facing today is the hardest we’ve ever recorded, the hardest since World War II.” — Emmanuel Macron If you didn’t think that the impacts of climate change would rank 2nd only to a world war, you haven’t been paying attention. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/07...
“The fires in France and Spain are part of a broader wave of wildfires this summer across Europe, where repeated heat waves since May have brought extreme temperatures. Last month was the hottest June on record in Western Europe.” www.nytimes.com/live/2026/07...
“Climate related events are exacting a growing cost. And it’s now clear both that those costs will grow and that economies aren’t fully prepared.” time.com/article/2026...
With a 5 instead of 3 pm EDT start for the 3rd place consolation #WorldCup match in #Miami today, the heat index will be 101 °F instead of 102°. The wet bulb temperature will be 79, above the 77 °F dangerous humid heat threshold. I would expect a pace like in the Minions viral video (HI 🟨 T 🟥 Td 🟩).
"The trend is unambiguous. Per-person annual exposure to wildfire smoke in the US was 4 times higher on average between 2020 and 2024 than during the prior fourteen years. Climate change is the driver." — @paulewalsh.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/paulewal...
Live free or die.
Right Wing WatchMAGA cultist Eric Metaxas was outraged by seeing an air quality alert triggered by the Canadian wildfires that suggested people limit outdoor activity: "How dare they say that. Who has the right to tell me or you or anyone anything? It's a free country. I can do whatever I want."
Unhealthy: hastens respiratory disease, and the smallest particles dissolve into the circulatory system causing long-term damage. It’s another detrimental symptom of climate change.
Dakota SmithA huge plume of wildfire smoke covers parts of the Midwest and Northeast this afternoon. Unfortunately, more smoke is on the way.
Before, during, and after a disaster, the wealthy 🎩 always fare best while those living paycheck to paycheck suffer economically, physically and mentally for years. Here is a pretty revolting example: www.prnewswire.com/news-release...
“The move on Friday was the latest in a series of extraordinary efforts by the Trump administration to weaken environmental regulations designed to fight climate change and prevent species extinction.” It’s overwhelming. They’re sh*tting our bed 💩 and the kids’ 🛌 www.nytimes.com/2026/07/10/c...
