As a general rule: explaining something you know well to smart people who ask good questions but do not know the topic well is a really useful exercise. If nothing else, they tend to ask interesting questions which you hadn’t considered.

Just so people understand the timeline: (1) The president of the United States called Somali-Americans "garbage" and the Vice President says that the US has a "Somali Problem". (2) The White House directs immigration agencies to Minnesota due to its large Somali community.

I disagree. Le Pen hasn’t instigated a coup d’état. Meloni does not have track record of openly racist remarks. And Orbán accepted his electoral defeat. Not to say that Europeans would no longer vote for these leaders if they did, but we simply don’t know yet. Trump is much more extremist!

I think this is the key to Italian (and Spanish, arguably) food culture: high average quality, not a long upper tail of the distribution. Applies to eating out but also eating in. Everyone* can put together a 7/10 meal, but far fewer people have sourdough starters or ground their coffee beans.
