Coffee does not keep me awake...I can drink it before bed no problem. But, weirdly, I need it to wake up in the morning. Also novocaine and other painkillers they inject to numb an area or nerve do not work on me at all.

My last moments on @bsky.app Heading back to Texas where I will no longer have access. I miss it already.

No such thing as an AI "writer". If you're using AI you are definitely NOT a writer. You are simply using AI to avoid doing the work.

Mine is the opposite. I turned in a short story as my 6th grade open house project and my teacher was so positive and enthusiastic about it that I decided I wanted to be a writer right then and there. It was the first time in my life that someone told me I was good at something.

Oh my. Visiting my daughter on Colorado and able to use @bsky.app for the first time in weeks! I live in Texas and have been shut out over a stupid age verification requirement that the app won't let me resolve. Just get an error message every time I try to follow their link to fix it.

So? Void the contract. He can't play without one so Toronto would just have to sign him to a new deal, which is likely what he'd prefer anyway.

For me it was someone pointing out that I used the word "shoot" in a medieval-style setting. They helpfully explained how that word wouldn't have existed yet. I asked if they believed the talking mythical creature from my fantasy world was speaking English? Hey, you want to be literal? I got you.

I worked with a guy at the Paramount Theatre back then who was heavily involved with AICN. I believe that's how he met Guillermo Del Toro and got the opportunity to work on Hellboy.

It seems idiotic to me that there is an argument going on where I am having to actually defend the position that listening and reading are not the same. They just aren't. It's an actual fact. No matter how much you wish they were, they aren't.

It's almost like you didn't read my post. Maybe if I recorded it for you? My post was all about how we interpret a story we read, not about how we learn and retain information. Still not the same.

Audio books do not = reading. Listening to someone else's interpretation of the martial is not the same as reading it with your eyes and allowing your brain to decipher. Multiple people can read a book and come out with different opinions on interpretation. Not really possible with audio books.

It's funny. We all have our own lines in the sand. As a writer I find vernacular colorful and fascinating, not irritating at all. But let someone use "decimate" to describe almost total loss and my blood gets to boiling every time. 🙂

Our politicians (from ALL sides) are a shit show. I'm finding that most people are actually still pretty decent. Problem is that there is a small vocal minority of people who spend their entire lives online--and they suck. Get out and meet real people, though, and it restores your hope a little.

I have found that, for me, my most die-hard writing binges (while being very productive) lead to huge breaks away from writing. I immerse myself into the work to the extent that I completely burn out and then for months I associate that pain with writing and can't bring myself back to it.

I wonder how many kids get to say that they're first job was helping their dad bury the bodies. Probably more than we'd think.
