Toronto-centric voice for architecture and urbanism. Transit nerd. Recovering American. Research, writing, bikes, architect-adjacent. (EN/FR, she/her/elle)

Rode the Lower Don Trail AND checked out the new Biidaasige Park today, and rode the East Don Trail two weeks ago. There's some incredible green space (re) opening in the city.

I'm proud of this description of the Toronto housing crisis, it's the most succinct I've ever been without getting into all the rambly details like zoning and development charges.

It is great, but crossing fingers it keeps up. The entire system of producing housing was tied to a perception of infinite demand and infinite capacity for increased prices. A pause in immigration and higher interest rates have exposed structural barriers to long term affordability.

During construction is often the best time to see mass timber! This is the new tower at UofT, designed by MJMA and Patkau!

Housing policy nerds, do you have any recommended follows for Vancouver/BC? A fellow housing nerd just moved there and is looking to dive deep! Top of the list, of course, is @brenttoderian.bsky.social!
