So on the Interior Salish part Plateau where I am, there’s a sort of time-series of projectile tips. In general (many caveats), the tips become smaller over time, as stone tool tech levels up and people go from spear points to atlatl (spear thrower) darts to arrowheads for bows.

YES IT’S ADORABLE, and with the velocity and accuracy made possible with Plateau bows+skilled bow hunters this could penetrate most prey (and most poorly armed enemies). This arrowhead style started ~1,200 years ago and was still popular when settlers showed up ~200 years ago.

Same! We DO find those things, new and old, and it’s a delight. I do a lot of work where precontact Indigenous sites have some historic (post 1860) artifacts mixed in, and we see toys/child culture in both! And there is ALWAYS a marble!

This is stunning. I live in a forested place where fire weather is really setting in so I’ve seen too much wildfire already, this made me hold my breath. Damn.

Karen I hate to be that person but sewage treatment relies on fostering good bacteria to digest the poop, and liberal party swag is so inorganic and toxic it might actually poison the sewage

We are ALL VULNERABLE TO EXTREME HEAT AND TOXIC AIR ffs, there is no safe level of PM2.5 particulate matter in wildfire smoke and there are clearly definable limits for heat exposure! For everyone! There is zero controversy over this. Protect workers.

Do occupational health and safety bureaucrats and political appointees really think employers are going to call off work in demonstrably hazardous conditions without enforceable OH&S regulations? And putting the onus on workers to self-identify as being vulnerable to heat and smoke? APPALLING.

I unfortunately have to keep looking at satellite-mapped hotspots (to know if it’s safe to go to work) it is just terrifying how far ahead of a fire front the winds can carry embers with this weather.

Sylvia I am so sorry for this loss. I knew him online for many years and considered him a kindred soul ♥️

In fact I stopped even trying to camp with the fam in BC’s summer drought, it was such a bloody stressful exercise to try to plan and then be ready to move at a moment’s notice, always sniffing the air for smoke and alert to winds. It’s not worth it, I can’t do that.
