living in Chicago is incredible because sometimes you just stumble across a Scene of Epic Proportions

Saw this a couple of weeks ago at North Ave / DLSD. The lime scooter was almost completely underwater! We’re overdue for a DLSD renovation. Our fossil-fuel-warmed atmosphere can now dump so much more water than what we designed our cities for.

First time seeing the new Divvy dock at North Ave beach — what a godsend. For the 4 years I’ve played volleyball here, each night I see dozens (if not HUNDREDS) of divvy bikes overflowing the lakefront path and the closest station. Must have been a nightmare for staff to deal with!

Civic action of the day: I just submitted this feedback on CTA’s website. (Squeaky wheel gets the grease!) In short, CTA should have a text hotline to report issues. Nobody wants to press the EMERGENCY button if they’re in an uncomfortable situation on the train. And the chatbot is beyond useless.

They weren’t thinking that long term. These decisions were being made in the 30s through the 80s. The last passage is from 1986! They were primarily thinking about short term gain.

Never forget that the Lead Industries Association and the Chicago plumbers union should have been put on trial for crimes against humanity. Their greed is the single reason why generations of Chicagoans were (and continue to be) poisoned.

Clearly there’s a difference between sports betting & transit. If you mismanaged one, you sabotage an essential lifeline for literal millions of workers, families, etc. If you mismanaged the other, there would be relatively minor consequences. We need transit board members to ride the train.

Just as transit policy (still) needs to adjust to pre-pandemic commute patterns not coming back, housing policy should incorporate the fact that many older adults are not downsizing. Compared with transit, the solution here is straightforward: build more. www.wsj.com/economy/hous...
