Excellent thread. I haven't read her essay yet, but some of the reactions I've seen have depressed me -- especially the ones that view the essay as an expression of sour grapes, rather than someone engaging with the film from her own perspective and on her own terms.

lol I am not going to pretend I knew who she was before she published her translation of The Iliad in 2023, but that translation got a ton of press!

To me, the Occam's Razor explanation is that McConnell is well enough that he expects to be back in the Senate within a couple of months, well before a special election could be held.

In 2016 the percentage of Black voters *in the Democratic primary* in GA was very slightly lower than in SC. But it's possible that's changed. And I also agree that GA makes more sense overall given what you've said.

I think because they want a state whose Democratic electorate has a high percentage of Black voters. In 2016 the % of Dem primary voters in SC who were Black was 58%. (Only AL and MS were higher.) Of course, that also makes it one of the least-representative Dem electorates in the country.
