I think the new format allowed players to also have a lot more in the tank when we got to the final round. Usually the best HR derby hitters in the first round run out of gas and are done for the later rounds. Not a problem tonight.

I appreciate some of the touches this year at the Futures Game. The Hartford Yard Goats on-field emcee is here. They just brought out Reading's Crazy Hot Dog Vendor (riding his ostrich as one should). The minors are awesome. Great to see it being brought to a big league park for a MiLB showcase.

This is a much better Liam Doyle than what I saw from him in the Cards' spring breakout game. Consistently 99 mph and throwing strikes.

I will say, trying to keep up with the draft while watching the Futures Game is a bit too much for me. I want to be utterly locked into both.

Good battle between Rangers RHP Caden Scarborough and Dodgers OF Josue De Paula. De Paula had some good takes, but Scarborough struck him out with a slider. Then Alfredo Duno gives a ball a ride, but to the deepest part of the park. 106 mph off the bat, but just an F-8 to Walker Jenkins.

So Seth Hernandez touched 101, threw a few nasty changeups and struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. 14 pitches, 10 strikes. Not a bad brief workday.

Brewers SS and No. 1 prospect in baseball Jesus Made had a very professional BP pre-game. Exceptionally easy swings but the line drives still carried. And he carries it over into the game with a single off Kade Anderson.
