Part of an old Jewish (Hillel) saying goes, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me?” Last night, the most visible part of our national press corps showed they won’t stand up for each other. And they undermined not just themselves, but every local news reporter who must put up with far worse.

There's a famous story about Joe Stalin making a speech in 1937. When he was done, the audience began clapping wildly but then everyone was afraid to stop. They kept going for 11 minutes. Finally one guy had enough and stopped, and then everyone else could too. That guy was imprisoned for 10 years.

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them

There is a major political organization allied with the president that got so mad a Latino artist was tapped to play at the Super Bowl they made a whole alternative show. We should all take a moment to reflect on that. It is so blatantly racist.

The TACO cycle: Markets want to price in TACO. But TACO only works if Trump sees stocks tank. So we get a loop: Trump does things → nothing happens (markets already priced in TACO) → that emboldens him to do more → until markets start to think he might not TACO → stocks fall → TACO is restored.

Umm, so we “need” to take Greenland to “protect it from Russia”… The same Russia he just asked to join his “peace board”? Do I have that right?
