the other question is whether political consensus is a necessary precondition for reform. Its easy to see why @andyburnham.bsky.social wants this - he was burned by the death tax accusations in 2009-10 and May's reform attempt was nixed by the "dementia tax".

This may happen - but if the Eu relations team stays in the new OPMC it may just mean that Ed Miliband takes on some of what Keir Starmer was doing, while Hamish Falconer continues the NTS role. That would be my interpretation. We know Burnham wants to focus more domestically

Remains to be seen what impact moving control of EU relations out of the Cabinet Office will have on intergovernmental relations, esp vis-à-vis any decision-shaping on the UK's part in areas of devolved competence. In 3rd countries like Switzerland, EU+IGR are necessarily intertwined.

it seems sort of apt that Keir Starmer's first international sporting date was glitzy Olympic opening ceremony in Paris, hobnobbing with world leaders and @andyburnham.bsky.social is at a pared down Commonwealth Games in Glasgow meeting First Ministers of Scotland and Wales...But at least less rain?

In our chapter for the Brexit Effect book, @alexgathomas.bsky.social and I argued that Brexit exposed the feebleness of many of our constitutional protections - and argued no party had an agenda to address them. Good that @conunitucl.bsky.social has put forward some ideas on how to do that.
