Ok sorry there’s a little bit more in my brain. No two situations are the same, but it’s hard not to see this trade and think about the Nats not dealing Kyle Finnegan or Lane Thomas at the deadlines before they eventually did, when WSH had more leverage due to more team control.

If I could bold one part of the thread I just posted on the Mead-Early trade, it would be this. Yes, the Nats have an immediate need for pitching of any kind. But they also have an immediate need to keep hitting as well as possible.

Immediately after publishing any sort of analysis, I wish I went down some other rabbit holes. So additional thoughts … - The internet really likes this trade for the Nats (as does everyone I’ve talked to so far, as do I, based on those conversations). But … (Thread)
