so last night you saw Nick Cave sing 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' with Kylie Minogue, but nearly thirty years ago I saw him sing it with Blixa Bargeld, and they had a little kiss afterwards, so how d'you like them apples

And isn't it ultimately from music like this that Deleuze and Guattari (via Bateson) developed their idea of the plateau?

I genuinely believe that when all the gongs come together at around 39 seconds it's the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. David Toop told me it's like the creation of the world, and I think he was right.

It's August, which means we've just got another two weeks left of term…

We're getting a new mattress today, our old one recycled, and our bedrrom now looks like something bad's about to happen, or already has…

Agreed. @vittles.bsky.social is one of the best things to have happened in this country for years, and it makes living in London far more interesting.

The @vittles.bsky.social 451 Great Restaurants to Try in London - Google Map is a thing of beauty. I've spent the afternoon adding recommendations to my map so when in deepest Dalston or out in Hounslow I'll have somewhere new to try. Subscription needed for access - worth it for this alone.

I was invited to a temple dedication in Bali about 15 years ago, one of only two non-Indonesians granted permission, with gamelan performances, Topeng mask dances, Kecak monkey chant, and it was probably one of the most amazing days of my life.

Thinking of Christine today, and Ross, their girls, and everyone who loved her (which seemed to be everyone). It was a blessing to have known her, and many a glass will be raised to her tonight.

Yesterday we lost one of our better ones, Christine Borland, an artist of rare touch and sensitivity, and one of the kindest, loveliest people you could ever wish to meet. This is how I'll remember her always, a smile on her face, her voice as soft as running water. My love to Ross and the girls. X

I know that everyone's become very interested in film criticism this past week, but there's little which can top this frame in a recent 'Drunken Bakers' strip. @vizcomic.bsky.social @barneyfarmer.bsky.social @leehealey.bsky.social

Imagine being desperate for a pint and walking in there

www.economist.com/britain/2026... Wrote about our indie music loving elite and how Burnham is...just another 50-something bloke interested in the exactly same thing as others of his generation

Anyone know how to revive a dragonfly I found on the surface of our pond? It’s drying out, and has a little sugar water.

We should be incredibly grateful to @regretteruane.bsky.social for sharing these wonderful works with us

Rose Ruane

Satyr created by Mary Lorraine, c.1967, in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital, where she was compelled to live. One of several surviving works her paintings often depict scenes of ballet, art making & society occasions & it seems, pre-hospitalisation, she may have been a professional dancer

Morris is one of the subjects of @alicehattrick.bsky.social’s brilliant new book, ‘Fancy Work’, published by @fitzcarraldoeds.bsky.social

Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

These delicate explorations of rosebuds were drawn and painted by May Morris (1862–1938), an influential embroiderer and designer of the Arts & Crafts movement in late-19th-century Britain.

Ooh, flash sale at Primary Information, he thought, added four books to his cart ($40), and was glad to check the cost of postage ($148.05) before going ahead

Five years ago I dug up our front lawn. Now I can barely get in amongst the plants to do the occasional weeding.
