I think I'm going to take a bit of a bluesky break. I think I need a whole media break but that seems risky re: outbreaks, fall of democracy, racism, ICE etc. So seeeee you guys in a few weeks or something.

But I do call occupy a failed social movement to make a point that even social movements aren't all successful so we should not dunk on other types of epistemic activism like artivism & this is the lovely part of growing & rethinking how we discuss these issues so I appreciate this so much.

Like even if we say occupy didnt result in x, y, z thing and was a failure, it doesn't mean it did not have an impact on how people think or discussed social issues (ie had epistemic impacts). Just because something doesnt immediately foment massive social change it does not mean it has no value.

In my book, I talk about how we tend to act like the only worthwhile activism is the kind that is "successful" and even use occupy as an example of a so-called "failed" social movement to highlight that epistemic activism is a process that benefits from many modes of activism (including art!)

I feel like it was weirder for me to like ~inherit~ the role of aunt by marrying someone whose siblings had kids. My sister's kids feel like my nieces and nephew. My husband's feel like i walked in on some dynamic im not 100% a part of. Even for the 2 kids born after we were together.

There is no scenario where this is a positive change. Like privatizing prisons was not a positive change.

I know you guys hate TSA or whatever but this is clearly a way to get rid of union jobs (regular TSA agents are under a union... even if Trump and Noem tried to undercut it) and a money grab. The need for screening won't change, it's part of the regulations now. But now it will be for profit.
