California's new $270M incentive program is for first-time EV buyers only, because research shows once drivers try an EV, they stick with them. Can other states trying to backfill lost federal EV tax credits with tight budgets try the same approach? www.canarymedia.com/articles/ele... #energysky

States have passed almost no measures restricting clean energy permitting in 2026, a big change from 2025. In fact, more states are pushing to streamline solar, wind and battery projects as the best (only?) near-term way to meet booming energy demand: www.canarymedia.com/articles/cle... #energysky
It is also worth pointing out that human-caused climate change is now the dominant contributor to the increase of wildfire risk in the western U.S.: cpo.noaa.gov/study-shows-...
My comments on the new @nationalacademies.org report on climate change & extreme weather attribution. The TLDR statement: If anything, the academy understates the strength of the science linking increasingly extreme weather events to climate change: michaelmann.net/comments-on-...
In CA mobile home communities, free heat pumps are cutting bills & protecting residents from extreme heat. @lauraklivans.bsky.social reports for @kqedscience.bsky.social on how a savvy contractor & state incentives are bringing #electrification to low-income Californians. bit.ly/4weWBR2
Can PJM's new "reliability backstop procurement" get data centers to pay directly for new clean energy, batteries, and power plants to cover their grid costs? Let's hope so, because the biggest U.S. grid operator's old capacity market isn't working: www.canarymedia.com/articles/dat... #energysky
"The fuel price spike triggered by the Iran war has made it clear just how much cheaper it can be to move freight with trucks that run on electricity instead of gasoline or diesel," reports @jeffstjohn.bsky.social: www.canarymedia.com/articles/ele... 🔌💡
"We see masked agents terrorizing our streets, eating food cooked by our undocumented neighbors before spiriting them away in unmarked vans. We see a nation whose immense wealth has been built by those with calloused, dirt-streaked hands — those who toil on factory floors and chisel into stone.
Spiking gasoline and diesel costs have made electric trucks and vans a lot cheaper to run than their fossil-fueled counterparts. Now, can manufacturers like Workhorse cut up-front cost of EVs to seal the deal for all-electric short-haul freight fleets? www.canarymedia.com/articles/ele... #energysky
California lawmakers have a choice: Free up $194M in CalSHAPE funding for school HVAC and plumbing repairs, or let the money return to big utilities for a few dollars per month of bill relief for about a year. School advocates say the choice is clear: www.canarymedia.com/articles/car... #energysky
Here’s what the air conditioning discourse illuminates: to deal with climate change we need to electrify & we need zero carbon electricity, we also need more electricity- like double or triple what we have. And we need more cooling & cooling equity. There will be folks fighting against all of that.
They include a) refrigerants with less GHG impacts, b) reduction in refrigerant leaks throughout the supply chain, from manufacturing to transport to disposal, & of course, most of all, c) decarbonizing the electricity sources that power AC. More on all that here:
Sunrun, Tesla and Renew Home say they have 16 gigawatts of home battery and smart thermostat-enabled "flexible energy capacity" for utilities and data center developers to contain rising costs of delivering power across congested U.S. power grids: www.canarymedia.com/articles/vir... #energysky
PA has long failed to enable community solar. Warehouse and data center development mushrooms in PA. Proposed HB 1260 would require new warehouses to be solar-ready, incentivize retrofits. Add data centers to HB 1260, marry it to a community solar bill, pass both. Huge potential benefits.
Jeff St JohnWarehouse rooftops are open fields of urban solar development, with hundreds of gigawatts of potential across the U.S. Community solar programs are unlocking a fraction of that capacity—but there's a lot more states and utilities could do to expand it: www.canarymedia.com/articles/sol... #energysky

This week, more than 100 FBI agents executed a massive law enforcement effort targeting the Ohio Organizing Collaborative. The group's offense? Running successful voter registration programs and fighting for fair redistricting in Ohio, @marcelias.bsky.social writes. https://bit.ly/3Qml07s
