I count at least six cities with the fewest murders through July since before 1970 (NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Detroit, Oakland & New Orleans). New York City and Philadelphia are on pace to have the fewest murders reported in a year in each city since 1944.

First look at murder through July (still waiting on the Texas cities) shows murder is still falling at unprecedented levels in the United States with no signs of levelling.

There have been 50 murders in New Orleans through July 2026, the fewest through July since 1969. New Orleans is on pace for fewer than 100 murders for the first time since 1971 (99).

We survived July, the most useless month! Now for August, the second most useless month!
