There are already all manner of people screeching they won't vote for Stevens if Al-Sayed doesn't win. Some of the same people who I'm sure who enjoyed demanding that everyone bow down and worship their nazi-tatted sex abuser.

All of the people who passed the largest climate bill in the history of the world. Who then got zero credit for it. As for voting propensity...yeah no. Not giving you that one.

And to be clear...I'm not rooting it on. I just think there is a fair bit of wishful thinking happening on this topic. It is the biggest book series in history. They sold $75mm in just digital and audiobooks last year (a record). It might fail for a host of reasons, but it remains a prime property.

There are legions of middle aged parents who grew up with these books and are thrilled to be sharing them with their kids. I understand your experience is otherwise, but unless you're hanging around with a lot of 40-yo parents you are not the current target demo.

Just this morning a coworker shared video of her ecstatic 11-yo opening her birthday present - a Hogwarts invite that sent letters flying all over the room. They're talking about taking her to London to do the experience over there rather than a party for her bat mitzvah.

Probably half of my mutuals were republicans or at least true independents prior to 2016. These are people who are now donating to candidates, working campaigns, going to protests, etc. Freaking Bill Kristol is a more reliable dem vote and voice right now than plenty of the people on this website.

Frankly, it feels like the hardcore leftists are the ones fighting Dems far more right now. The centrists know we’re in an existential fight for the country and the left is continuing to make demands about who needs to “earn” their votes.

I’d bet anything it’s going to be wildly successful. There’s now multiple generations who grew up with them and the movies have aged just enough that younger viewers will enjoy something of their own that’s new. Most people offline just have zero idea how horrible JKR is.
