I’m glad that it passed and now we have to ensure we have rigorous regulations or else neighbors will be facing the impacts. We need housing. We need a flourishing downtown. We don’t need this. 2/

This ordinance doesn’t ban anything about what people wear. It requires particular venues that enforce a dress code to post it publicly. Dress codes still can’t be used to discriminate based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or other protected classes under our civil rights ordinance.

While the council voted to move forward today, it will need 9 votes to eventually accept the grant so this is not over yet. 8/

I voted no. I am thankful to my colleagues who also came out against applying for this grant and stood with our community ( @elliottpayne.org , @robin4mpls.bsky.social , @sorenwithward8.bsky.social , @aishaforward10.com , @aurinmpls.bsky.social). 7/

According to figures reported by the Star Tribune, of the top 15 nationalities represented among those “arrested” during the occupation between December 2025 and March 10, 2026, over 90% were from Latin American countries, and more than half were from Ecuador or Mexico alone. 6/

That ordinance has not been implemented. We could’ve already been recouping those fees. Instead, the refusal to implement it means our residents are subsidizing side gigs for MPD. I refuse to put my undocumented neighbors at any risk, & I will never forget what the occupation did to my community. 5/

It was also said that there were no alternative funding sources to maintain NIBIN access. That was completely false. This Council already passed an off-duty work ordinance designed to recoup fees, fees that could reduce the burden on taxpayers. 4/

This program’s stated funding priorities explicitly include immigration law enforcement operations, and it operates under a statute containing a section titled the “Bridging Immigration-related Deficits Experienced Nationwide (BIDEN) Reimbursement Fund.” 3/

.. and further describes its authorizing statute as providing funding to locate and apprehend “aliens” who have committed crime(s)… in addition to being “unlawfully present” in the United States. 2/

The funds would support them with vehicle repair costs and loan payments, medical bills, including surgery costs, and their living expenses. 3/

… with multiple detentions, loss of income and ongoing trauma, they are now also having to recover from the cost of their stolen food truck. Our neighbors were relying on income from this truck to pay back their loan and support their families. 2/

Additionally, there are conversations about data centers in Phillips and in the Southside Green Zone. I am looking forward to working closely with community to ensure the health and wellness our neighbors are not being put in harms way. Jason 3/

I’m glad that the Minneapolis City Council established a temporary data center moratorium. The regulations piece is coming before the council soon. There are attempts to build data centers outside of downtown, next to rivers, and communities impacted by pollution. It’s time to get organized. 2/
