13. Fun and love. I mean, having worked in the industry most of my adult life, I know there's no money in pub, and having written fanfics that never got much traction, I'm moderating my expectations when it comes to sales (if sales ever happen). But I still write because goddamn, I love these bees.

12. As much as I love the zizzun and Honeysuckle, it's actually still Mick Martin, the human-turned-(reluctant-)dragon. He's the easiest POV I've ever written, not to mention he's a) my disaster son who gets too deep into his own head and b) one of Luck's favorite punching bags.

11. Absolutely, BUT! I'm of the opinion that writer's block could be any of three things: 1) the writer needs rest, 2) the writer needs to go back and change something so they haven't painted themselves into a corner, or 3) both at once. And sure enough, break + revisions usually unsticks me.

10. Literally any zizzun worldbuilding. Also: Probably the scene in which Mick "confesses" (in quotes because he finds out that Eleanor, a psychic, already knew about his crush on her but kept silent because she thought he needed time). It's designed to be so soft even the lighting is soft.

9. A lot of stuff involving community, apparently! It's all I end up writing. Even before TNS, my stories were usually about how it's harder to heal in isolation, and now a lot of it is about how much more powerful people are when they work together. Also, learning one's self-worth. So growth too.

8. Bees. :V Seriously, tho, usually other media or aesthetics. Beeslingers is a love letter to western camp (like Firefly, Trigun, or the 1999 film Wild Wild West); TNS came from FFXIV and art nouveau; and Beehemia . . . actually, that one came about because somebody let me on Bsky unsupervised.

7. It's a tie between suffering through the anxiety that happens immediately after sending one's work off to betas and actually writing setting or clothing descriptions.

6. Color and light symbolism. Maybe it's my "I took a course on Hitchcock once, and his techniques have lived rent-free in my head since"-ass, but there's a lot you can do with light-vs-dark and color tropes, even if you're not actually working with a highly visual medium. :D

4. Conversations. Or character interactions in general. It's funny, but though I love worldbuilding, when I actually sit down to write, it's the stuff where I can focus on characters and their body language that I find easiest to write. Like, building that *chemistry*, you know?

Also? I know I need to read more indie, on that note, but Alex Larkspur was an excellent introduction, to both indie *and* cozy fiction.

4. At the moment, it's Grady Hendrix, the only author who's ever made me sob at the end of a story about extremely cursed puppets or another one about a haunted Ikea. Also, Jon Bois, for the same reason, except it's satellites instead of haunted Ikeas or puppets.

3. Once upon a time, I would've said cathartic ones, the kind that just sort of have you sitting there at the end. Nowadays, it's usually happy—like, the kind of happy characters had to fight to earn.
