Weirdly, while I have plenty of rejections, they’ve pretty much all been either professional or bland. Nothing to enrage me. Online reviews are a different matter but don’t really count as “authority figures.”
John ScalziI suspect most writers have that one authority figure who was snide about their writing, allowing that writer to be fueled by spite for years if not decades. My version was the creative writing prof who was dismissive about science fiction. I sent him a copy of Old Man's War when it was published.
I love Speaker for the Dead. I wish Card would read it again to underline how important it is to understand people from their perspective, not yours.
