One rule for thee, and another for me? We are told the University of Exeter is at risk because of falling income, but management salaries & consultancy costs have risen markedly. What's going on? democracyforsale.substack.com/p/inside-bri...

Inside Britain's university crisisAs teaching staff face job loss, their bosses have netted pay rises and bought advice from a “vampiric” management consultancy, writes Prof. John Heathershaw of the University of Exeterdemocracyforsale.substack.com

This is their plan. This has always been their plan. Perhaps by the end of this year we will see them argue why climate change means we need stronger borders.

It’s exhausting. For years, decades, right wing media have lied and told us #climate breakdown was just woke nonsense. Now, it’s whoopsies, yes it’s real, but relax everyone & enjoy our new “Mediterranean” climate as Europe goes up in flames around us.

While the University of Exeter redundancy disaster staggers forward, a reminder that this is not about numbers in spreadsheets but people's lives. lizzywilliamson.substack.com/p/on-redunda...

Glorious (& ultimately quite positive review) of Nolan's The Odyssey by Emily Wilson: "The writing is abysmal. None of the characters has convincing motivation for their actions or words. There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible." www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

If you haven't already signed, then please do. There is a small window of opportunity to stop the disastrous plan to cut up to 200 academic jobs in Exeter (most - but not all - in humanities & social sciences). www.change.org/p/stop-redun...

There are people who will tell you with a perfectly straight face that climate change impacts are not that bad, nothing to panic and rapidly phase out fossil fuels about. And anyway this destruction is about failure to adapt so it's sort of their fault.

Only seems like yesterday BP tried to pass itself off as an 'energy company' with all the Beyond Petroleum guff. Now it's just Beyond Parody as a money grabbing moral vacuum.

For years fossil fuel companies argued that gas was a bridge fuel. What they didn't say was that it was a bridge to climate breakdown.

Rebecca John

Our major new investigation is out today packed full of revelations about the oil and gas industry’s decades-long deception over natural gas. We show how big oil and gas created the myth of “clean” natural gas before deceptively marketing it as a climate solution. @climateintegrity.org
