I've been writing for Hardcore Gamer since its first issue in 2005, which may be a long time to do anything but it hasn't gotten boring yet. james (at) hardcoregamer (dot) com

Old sci-fi trope regarding AI- People treat their robots terribly, to the point when they go full murder-bot it's hard to be on humanity's side. New sci-fi trope regarding AI- Murder-bots don't need to kill anyone, they're just subservient and reaffirming as people accidentally off themselves.

Too rainy outside to adventure today so Max is assisting me while I work.

Amnesty International UK apologized for its anti-trans rights article. So here it is, preserved (hopefully) forever. I can't believe I'm telling @amnestyuk.bsky.social to go fuck themselves, but here we are. We need them not to be spineless, cowardly douchenozzles. web.archive.org/web/20260709...

Great little action-roguelike pixel-art shooter Minegeon: Renegades released today after a two-day setback. Shoot enemies, beat on slimes, upgrade through the run, and keep on working up the power curve. hardcoregamer.com/a-little-beh...

Got an email for a release of a new game, "an old-school Dark Fantasy Action RPG", and it's hard to overstate how over Dark Fantasy I am. Been there, done that, I'm tired of the gloom. I don't need perky and upbeat but the "...and then everything was terrible" thing is exhausting.

No no, it’s fine, I don’t have anywhere to be.

Picked up the new Robert Kirkman book Terminal this week, and while I normally enjoy his writing, I’m a little taken aback by how much I disliked this series. It’s like The Death of Joy as a comic, just miserable from start to finish. Got lucky with a blind bag, too, so read the first 2 issues.

Got a review game I should be playing, big and needs all the time I can give it. It's one I'm actively looking forward to, so no reason not to. Except my brain doesn't want to do anything at all this evening. So that's a problem.

Weird wood-based crafting with light automation game, @nullref-entertain.bsky.social's Chop Chop Inc., got a release date of 8/07. Beat up trees, make wood-based items like PCs and boom boxes, and do terrible things to your former employer's monopolistic status. hardcoregamer.com/there-is-not...

There Is Nothing Wood Can't Be Used For in Chop Chop Inc. Release Date TrailerChop Chop Inc. is a not particularly serious crafting game about using a forest to drive your former employer straight into bankruptcy.hardcoregamer.com

Oh hey, excellent timing! I was thinking I was short on spyware, and here's a nice savings on LG to help fill that spyware gap in my life.

-watches trailer- Well I'm 100% sold on the robot designs and Gorf-voice alone.

There's a lot to enjoy with the combat system of @nisamerica.bsky.social's Disgaea Mayhem, but the lack of content and need to manually adjust the difficulty from insta-win are real problems. Well before it's over, all leveling up is good for is leveling up more. hardcoregamer.com/review-disga...

Disgaea Mayhem Review: Action-Packed but Loss of PotentialDisgaea Mayhem is an action-RPG that adapts the power grind of the strategy series into something more similar to the Dynasty Warriors games.hardcoregamer.com

I’m sure there’s a reason to get out of this hammock and be productive but…. *looks straight up*

Nobody needs those real-world physics anyway. @denshattack.bsky.social's Denshattack! is out today and proves that trains are even cooler when they can take to the air and pull off insane tricks through the countryside of a post-disaster Japan. hardcoregamer.com/review-densh...

Cheerful, upbeat tropical automation in @easmussen.bsky.social's Factory Town 2: Paradise, which just released today into Early Access. The first game was a fantastic automation/town-builder and I'm looking forward to digging in properly to the sequel. hardcoregamer.com/automating-a...

I don’t think the sun is supposed to do that.

It's awfully orange out today. Turns out Canadian wildfire smoke is in the atmosphere filtering the sunlight and making it look noticeably weird out there. I'd take a picture but my camera phone likes to believe it's capable of thinking, color-correcting when it really shouldn't be.
