If mayor Wilson had that Mamdani chutzpah he’d go down the water slide in a suit and then do a quick presser about not letting red tape get in the way of children enjoying summer in the park

Willamette Week

After WW reported on the slide being shut down, the parks bureau has backtracked.

Dog ownership has been very nice so far

There are two things stoping this, the question of if an anti-autocoup congress would have the chutzpah to act notwithstanding: 1) no certainty armed forces enforce their legal actions 2)Americans too dumb to understand that the Congress that is *not* in the Capitol is the legitimate one

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux

At least constitutionally, under such conditions, a 2027 situation where Trump and the GOP in DC 'refuse to seat' the Dem congress, there is nothing stopping them from sitting somewhere else and impeaching and removing the president, the entire cabinet and SCOTUS in an afternoon.

Totally the correct take, but a relevant detail is that funding for maintenance/care for grass fields was slashed from the park’s budget by the mayor/mod-squad

Brandon Mullen

Hot take: the cost of repairing GRASS is well worth making sure kids have something fun and social to do outside during the summer. It's GRASS. Give me a fucking break. www.wweek.com/news/city/20...

R+1 on corruption is a generational party failure tbh

Boss sent out an all hands invite with the agenda just saying “only two of you were online at 11am today” which, okay, fair.

My pie-in-the-sky big political idea is that OR/CA/WA should set up a Fire Corps on a state guard / territorial defense force / national guard / reservist style models, with similarly tiered, generous benefits. Legally binding oaths sworn, may be mobilized anytime, flyovers at football games, etc

Ubiquitous handguns are why America doesn’t have this and Europe does. It’s radically easier to get your ass kicked in Europe and people are politer for it

Sasho Todorov

My most small-c conservative take is that a lot of public norms and general high trust practices were maintained by the risk of getting a socially sanctioned shit kicking and we need to restore that.

I’m a dsa member because they raised the minimum wage in my city. As long as DSA keeps doing shit like that, they are entitled to infinite awful FP positions provided that never actually impact the real world.

Shoutout to my local landscaping store’s staff for telling me to use pi to 8 digits to calculate how much mulch I need.

A simple proposal curtesy of @dibabka.bsky.social: the police may get up to 25% of the general fund and no more. I think that’s entirely enough! A dept that *wanted* to do an exemplary job with those resources could.

Candace Avalos

This is the same bureau that has maintained similar staffing levels for the last 6 years and yet their response times SKYROCKETED — even though thousands of calls are being offset by non police responders like PS3s (which the mayor cut by 80% btw) and Portland Street Response. 🤔

Trudy Trout is showing signs of agreeableness and intelligence and also an absolute willingness to yeet herself of ledges that are waaaaay to high. Babygate installation in progress.

One fun thing about being a lobbyist is you can see 3-6 months into the future based on who is frantically hiring/starting new trade organizations and whatnot. In 2022 I was wondering why all the online ticket sellers were staffing up so hard. Anyway, every hiring list is all data center stuff now

Ken Plume

I’d say desperate, tone deaf ads like this suddenly showing up in Facebook feeds is a sign they know that public opinion is turning hard and fast on them… (I’m curious how many similar ads are showing up for other states…)

It’s gunna suck shit when the Dems take the White House and press the big “make the economy better” button that ends tariffs and other recessionary trump policies, and then nothing happens because the “it can only good happen” market truism doesn’t apply to Dem administrations

I know BDA is classified but “actually Iranian missiles/drones have been getting through and dozens of troops have been wounded and helicopters have been torched” is a wild thing to learn via a NYT leak and with no statement from the Pentagon

Deeply appreciate this massive Norse soccer oaf (laudatory) for what he is doing for the image of tall men with awful posture
