Love people, drink good coffee, and bike everywhere. I care a lot about cities (and 🎢s) | HIV+ | fighting for better streets @betterstreetschicago.org | My posts are mine

I was at an event this week where a State Rep insisted that we simply do not yet have the technology to electrify Metra. Then a State Senator followed by suggesting we take a serious look at hydrogen. Meanwhile, Chicago electrified MED literally a century ago. #PutUpTheDamnWires

There is already so much low-information propaganda about this municipal election cycle from influencers who have never even been through a Chicago municipal election before and who have clearly never organized to try and get anything done in the City, and many are just eating it up and amplifying.

I think it’s important for the public to know that this is the entirety of who was in the room to approve the NITA board appointments.

Alvarez passes. Barclay passes (Vasquez as only no). Mondero passes. Jenkins passes. Atkins passes. They will go to the full city council.

“Some of this is outside the TIF and would require additional funding” Y’all lol this plan is barely even half baked.

Even when asked about it today, they are painting with a broad brush on what the public is actually investing in on Roosevelt, and it is very limited in scope as to where any potential improvements will be made.

Meanwhile they make no commitments to increased transit access, ped/cycling adjacent or connecting to the site. No one is arguing AGAINST connectivity at the site. We're saying their plans are wholly insufficient considering the public investment.

"There's no longer a catalyst as there was with the DPI" Transit *is* a catalyst, number one. But they ARE bringing in 22,000 people for games, and proposing THOUSANDS of new residents in the future.

It's really incredible that since 2019 we've gone from The 78 definitely needs additional transit access, to Related still proposing public subsidy but claiming that the site is "adequately transit-served."
