The best part is, I recall hearing a senior Tory grandee - I forget which - telling Times Radio that Cameron and Osborne picked austerity as their great project not because it was smart or necessary, but because they needed a great project and that felt like a Tory thing to do.

NEW | A corrective to the gushing tributes… LIDDLE TO BE CELEBRATED An honest obituary for Rod Liddle, dead at 66, dead inside for many years before that. brokenbottleboy.substack.com/p/liddle-to-...
i'd say "pay attention to who has kind things to say about rod liddle, the racist pedophile, following his death" but to no surprise it is the entirety of the mainstream british press
the mainstream press praising rod liddle in death are not unaware he was a bigoted pedophile, they like him for it. the people in their in-group, at the top of their hierarchy, getting away with crimes signals that the world is in order. it is a moral good, to them. the bigger the crimes the better
it is more desirable to them that rod liddle beat his pregnant partner than if he had not. they like him more for it, because it reinforces their hierarchies more. men over women, adults over children, etc. it is comforting for them to see their hierarchy play out true
if a muslim immigrant wrote an article stating he wanted to rape british schoolchildren (as liddle did) the press now praising liddle would be outraged. not on behalf of any potential danger to children, though, they don't care about that. they'd be outraged at the writer not knowing his place
I think it’s hard to argue either that lockdowns were bad policy or that learning loss wasn’t real. We just have a society that makes no allowances for emergencies and affords no chance of making up. A lot of people are very mad about the effects of that without having any inclination to change it.
The media is desperate to find some reason why Elon Musk's politics are complicated or more sophisticated than they seem, because the simple truth is too ugly for them to admit - an actual Nazi is the world's wealthiest person, and his companies hold substantial American government contracts.
Confession: I’ve been using my iphone with autocorrect/autofill turned off entirely for two weeks or so now. Works fine.
Matthew J KuiperMy word, auto-fill & auto-correct on my iPhone (& dictation) has gotten so much worse. It routinely fills in the most illogical “next word”, or does things like suggest “brake” when I clearly want “break, or “hears” me say some wacky non-existent name instead of the ordinary, common expression.
I feel the same way about Musk trying to defend both British culture and the AfD. Britain has many flaws but the defining element of our national myth and history for the last 80 years is shooting Nazis in the head. It’s like being a monarchist Irish nationalist. My culture is not your costume.
making a list of which conditions are genuine and which are social constructs so I know who needs medicine and who needs to be removed from society
“social” is not the opposite of “real”
Scott BryanChannel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”
but it makes sense that people committed to a certain politics would reflexively treat them this way, so I don’t think it’s a misunderstanding of social construction, exactly
if you implicitly treat only putatively “natural” (biological?) phenomena as “genuine” in society then you might want to think about (a) what/whom your idea of nature includes or excludes and (b) what the political implications of ordering everything around that idea will be hope you like surprises
We need to force that despicable 28% back into their little hateful little holes where they can scream forever in impotent rage.
Like let’s make flying rainbow flags a federal law in June. Let’s declare Moms for Liberty a terrorist group. Let’s give planned parenthood $10 billion. Let’s do a federal takeover of Fox News. Let’s break up Ellison’s media monopoly. Do public removal ceremonies of Trump-named things.
Glad to see the internal colonization narrative taking hold. At this point, blue states are pretty much just paying for their own oppression, like blue cities in red states and colonized peoples throughout history. So, yay.
“Trump has rejected disaster aid for Democratic-run states at the highest rate in the 47-year history of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.” Right now people in blue states are basically paying federal taxes as if they’re colonized territories of red states. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
