If you’re submitting to agents, get your first page in perfect shape. Sometimes that’s all they’ll read. They get so many submissions they whittle down the pile by immediately discarding manuscripts that don’t hit the mark immediately. You can’t afford to hook them later. Grab them from the start

Never beat yourself up over the first draft of anything. It’s designed to be a disaster. The first draft is there to tell your story to yourself so you know what it is. Stories are created through refinement over multiple drafts, like carving a statue from a block of marble.
