Again, the thing about asking someone to vote for "harm reduction" is that you kind of have to do your very best to make sure that voter won't personally be harmed by the thing/person you're asking them to vote for, or that the voter's own personal situation is not so dire that they give a shit.

No they don't. If the "democracy" party is willing to throw certain individual's rights to the wayside to win, then they don't have the choice between authoritarianism and democracy for themselves.
