Sad to report that I found the remains of a Little Owl fledglings this morning - just feathers. Did it succumb to a predator or the heatwave? - I don't know. The remaining bird seems ok & both parents are close by. Always v sad to see so much effort from the parent birds come to nought. #LittleOwls

Yes - Iran was closer to the brink than Afghanistan. I remember walking around a marketplace in Tabriz and a pebble from a slingshot whistled by my shoulder - lots of anti-UK/USA feeling was coming to the surface. As you say, that whole route is now closed.

I'm not sure what led to the demise of this Short-tailed Field Vole - possible the cat who I caught on camera last night - but the wasps are carving-up the carcase in short-order... Large amounts of protein have disappeared in the last couple of hours and have been carried back to the nest. #Wasps
