Alice Ball, i will remember you and that you lived a life to help others. the fact that you died at 24 before you could show you found the way to get Chaulmoogra Oil to be given to leprosy patients which was the way to halt the progression of this debilitating disease. Thank You to Alice Ball.

Amazing. So cool. She got the Master's in Chemistry in Hawaii. For those wondering: she modified chaulmoogra oil allowing it to be safely injected. Also, in 1977, Kathryn Takara, a historian and professor was researching early Black scientists and found Alice Ball’s original 1915 master's thesis.

I’m so glad she finally got credit, but the disgusting men who stole the credit for her work probably received years of accolades and praise and money. Their names should live in infamy.

Ball died suddenly--before she could publish her findings. The research she left behind at the college was fair game for people who wanted to claim her breakthrough as their own. And two men did: Arthur Dean, College of Hawaii president & Richard Wrenshall, a chemistry professor. (2/3)

They published 2 papers with her research but did not mention her. Dean named it the Dean Method & produced the medication in large quantities, shipping it domestically and abroad. It would take more than half a century for Ball to receive credit for her work. #MatildaEffect #WomenInSTEM (3/3)

i did not know about Alice Ball and will look into finding out more information on her life. thank you for giving me the opportunity to know more about the people in history that my public and paid for college education did not include in their curriculums.
