Dubliner in London. Sports nerd (and general nerd). Views described as "top bilge" by award-winning journalists

To go into a bit more detail: Brand New Day is really enjoyable when it remembers it's a Spider-Man film and focuses on Spider-Man. But huge stretches are spent on other characters, who have been shoehorned in purely to tie the film into other Marvel properties. It's deeply frustrating and cynical

18) Spider-Man: Brand New Day Intermittently actually quite good (Tom Holland is a very engaging Spidey) but it's blighted by the usual MCU problem of being overstuffed, overlong, and overly interested in setting up the next film in the endless franchise.

Don't listen to Parkway Drive as much as I used to but been listening back to some of their earlier stuff and man both Killing With A Smile and Deep Blue really were generational albums

No survivors of the Broad Peak avalanche. Really is shocking how many legendary climbers die young.

That is hopefully that. Incredibly funny for FIFA even now to be saying "regardless of the level of support...".

The Tories finishing below Restore should be one of the biggest stories of this election

I have this with In-N-Out Burger in the States - a fast food place that is perfectly fine, but people talk about it like some kind of holy delicacy you can't acquire anywhere else.

My white whale is why everyone who goes to Sweden except me is obsessed with Max burger. I’ve been, it’s fine or whatever, it’s a burger chain somewhere in between McDonald’s and five guys. People recommend it to you like an eight wonder of the world

Translation is one of the most fascinating difficult art forms (yes it's art) in the world. To capture the essence of meaning across languages is an incredibly challenging task. A good translator has probably spent as much time (if not more) thinking of the meaning of a text than the original author

I do think suggesting that translation of an ancient text is not expertise is possibly a worse thing to say about Emily Wilson than even what the actual nazis are saying, if I'm honest. Literally incredibly malevolent take

Extraordinary to me that they're pushing ahead with this (and that they're blaming the media rather than their attempt to force this through at short notice)

Very interesting development. • FIFA acknowledges and respects feedback and concern aired in public • FIFA reaffirms its commitment to an open and democratic consultation • Erroneous reporting in the media disrupted planned consultation process inside.fifa.com/organisation...

It's (just about) raining in south London

Sincerely, tell your bros you love them, and tell them when they look good!

A thing I learned a while back that blew my mind is that men almost never receive compliments, especially cishet men. Giving a man a compliment will literally make their year

While we're on People Playing Music Out Loud On Public Transport Discourse, I do think a lot of people are just fascinatingly unaware of the people around them. On the (rare) occasions when I've asked someone to turn their music down, they've usually seemed a bit shocked that it was bothering people

This is really interesting (and confirms my experience that swathes of south London are particularly bad for phone coverage). Don't like the idea that it could be addressed by getting rid of net neutrality requirements however.

Alan Smith

New with Kieran Smith - why is UK mobile phone coverage so bad? www.ft.com/content/db17...

Honestly I thought Don't Look Up was far too on-the-nose, and now I'm wondering whether I was unfair on it.

Absolutely shameful piece. Even if a "Mediterranean" future were desirable - and a third of a million people are currently fleeing an inferno - what about those parts of the world being made uninhabitable? Where do their people go? Heath doesn't want them here. www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2026...

Didn't see Howe's departure coming - results last season weren't good enough but there were plenty of factors at play there and I thought if he was going to leave it would have happened at the end of the season, not now. Genuinely quite sad about it. Will be remembered very fondly by Newcastle fans.
