I drove a new ($4000) Škoda from 1977 to 1983, until the threads of the steering rods stripped, causing each front wheel to go its own way, and the air-cooling fan flung several blades, one through the boot lid. Now I find škoda is Czech for "damage", Slovak for "shame". Huh?
