Playing magic with my fiancé and our roommate's mother tonight, it's her second game of commander ever. She's using one of my favourite decks, and we're playing with open hands so she can learn how to play.

I've been working on a translation of the original manuscript version of the Carmina Burana texts (i.e., the passages from the Codex Buranus which were used by Orff for his suite) and I just finished the last of the passages yesterday and thought I'd share a little taste of it.

I've been spending so much time with this manuscript the past few weeks..... It's making me wish I could explain to people that I find so compelling about things like this. It's not just that it's old and that's impressive, or that it's beautiful; it's that it's so....familiar in its humanity.

We're doing Orff's Carmina Burana in my choir this autumn, and I've been recruited to help resolve discrepancies between lyrics in different editions of the score. I've primarily been asked because I can read the medieval manuscript and have the fucks to give to actually look the stuff up 😅

On the one hand, getting a paid gig in a choir singing a bunch of Final Fantasy music in two weeks is...amazing, and not something I ever would've thought I'd get On the other hand, it's got my anxiety all worked up that I have to learn 12 pieces to a somewhat-professional level in only 9 days 🫠
