Southern historian and political scientist. I mostly post about politics. AI Luddite. Certified California Hater.

I made a new recipe for a broccoli and chicken curry tonight. Somehow it ended up tasting like broccoli cheddar soup. Given I like both and cant have cheddar soup, this is a welcome surprise.

Is anyone out there growing their own lettuce? If so, do you have an indoor set up that doesn't take up half the house and isn't $900? I'm thinking I'd like to grow my own so I can eat a damn salad but it's too hot to grow anything outside right now.

I've definitely turned into an old person. I got a text from a client success mgr with no capitalization or punctuation but she was assuming it's a conversation. Nope, call me on the phone when you have a moment, I cannot read this.

New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles. This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused www.404media.co/google-earth...

🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t want to hear a word from Mainers towards southern states about racism and inbreeding for the rest of my life.

So this thing about Troy Jackson having 2 kids with his second cousin is fake, right? RIGHT? PLEASE TELL ME ITS FAKE.

Some avocados are female in the morning and male in the afternoon, while others are on the opposite schedule. This helps them avoid self-pollination. How do they do it? A @ucdavis.bsky.social study explains. www.ucdavis.edu/food/news/st...

It would benefit some people to talk about this shit as wasting tax dollars and government resources. Yes it’s a vile thing to do but it’s also clearly unconstitutional and would result in going to court on the taxpayers dime.

It's almost a start. $40M across 10 states, with the intent to try to flip 2 of the largest states in the country, is going to take more money and effort than opening a few offices. Add a 1 in front of the 4 and we're going to start talking.

As a business owner with a policy degree who doesn't give a damn about NYC politics, I'm going to answer this with a yes I think it's actually a good policy idea (translation to votes is another story). It improves access to food in places private companies already will not put their stores.

Will Stancil

Politics aside, do people believe city-run grocery stores with deeply discounted prices are a good POLICY idea? What are they intended to accomplish, in your view? What problem do they solve? Would you implement them if not running for election? I'm sincerely curious in people's answers here.

Flagler did not "employ" 4000 men. He forced labor through the convict leasing system. Then he brought in immigrants who ended up being held under debt peonage. I'm tired of pretending these men were some sort of business savants. He exploited Floridians, the land, and immigrants for his profit.

In case anyone is curious... someone who is married to a US citizen and they have a green card application sent in, they do not need to leave the country even if it's not yet approved. USCIS sends back a document stating you are legally allowed to remain in the country. Even with an expired visa.

I need y'all to stop listening to idiots screech about the Kentucky governor and former AG. The U.S. Senate is to notify the governor of vacancies. Period. The governor may not decide on his own there is a vacancy. That would be in violation of both the KY and the US constitutions.

It doesn’t have “be how it works”. - it’s forced Rs hand.
