So some of those boroughs did provide some data, some couldn't get it because it was private cemeteries. But we do need more complete data to come up with a proper plan. But at least the 2026 audit got info from 212 municipal and private cemeteries, compared with just 128 in 2011 audit

The new London Plan talks about the use of green belt - that may work in some cases (though I note controversy re converting an allotment in Richmond!). But we need to look at all options inc reuse given how little space is left! My concern is we're not planning proactively enough across London.

Well I think that's a conversation boroughs need to have sensitively with Jewish and Muslim communities. There's also a challenge about orientation towards Mecca with existing graves.

Haha, how about third hand?! The audit actually says we should futureproof graves by planning for triple-depth burials! But grave use is definitely something we should think about more - it's interesting that only 7 boroughs are currently reusing graves, despite the power they have to reclaim/reuse.

Another issue is that costs vary wildly - some of the green areas are also very pricey (e.g. Barnet).

Newham is a particularly interesting case! Less than five years of burial space left and high faith-based demand, as a borough with one of the highest Muslim populations. But it's also one of the few boroughs that is exercising its power to reuse graves.

A hint for everyone guessing: the map shows something London is running out of. Red means those boroughs have none left whatsoever.

So a hint: the red actually indicates no capacity left whatsoever. Luckily, Camden, Hackney and Tower Hamlets do have some loo provision (if not enough!)

Yep! TfL day that they haven't pursued a prosecution or issued any penalties related to improper use of the emergency alarm since 2016, but that doesn't stop people being afraid that they will! How many people would know that?
