Had a great day out celebrating @archaeologyuk.bsky.social Festival of Archaeology with the @wildlifebcn.org Youth Rangers today at Blow's Downs SSSI where we talked about 6,000 years of human impacts on nature and the landscape. Whilst out there on the chalk grassland, I spotted something lovely

#HiillfortsWednesday I WAS to lead a walk around Ravensburgh Castle with @naturalengland.bsky.social But I've been struck down with a stomach bug, which has got me not only disappointed, but also thinking of a gap in my knowledge. Iron Age settlement latrining? Do we know, where did they 'go'?

Handily dating this layer to the mid 1990s, this Esso bag is both a sobering reminder that plastics don't go away, and an alluringly suggestion that there will be a chariot burial in the next scrape back of the machine.

Well, I sound like a heat-addled incoherent babbler... Because it was actually 35°C 😂 But @paulwhitewick.bsky.social has done a video on the Carnyx and I was happy to take mine to a local hillfort and play it for him😎 Until they actually get us a carnyx emoji... 🐗🎺 youtu.be/68Hds0OYrbg?...

9yo, lovely colleagues gave me a send-off(& the best stratigraphic cake ever, thanks to @livancworlds.bsky.social's Dr P Hommel ❤️)Whilst I was sad then, I'm delighted to be my own boss now, still delivering great archaeology, teaching when & as much as I please,& no one but me can give me the push 😂

Delighted to see, whilst driving an alternative route home from the Dunstable event, that the Black Horse on the Vale Road, Chesham is open again!! All that talking to all those enthusiastic people today means I need a pint!! And they've one of my favourite breweries on! @tringbrewery.bsky.social

Just to be clear, I have no issues with the casting choices in this film of the epic poem. I was just amused that some people think using a Viking ship for the Odyssey is some sort of realism flex, but those same people are throwing their toys out of the pram about the selection of actors. #Odyssey

Been a while since I sat down with a quiet pint, and it's been a long day, so time for an historically themed lovely amber from the fine folk @twicebrewedbrewco.bsky.social
