As someone who lives here, I would just like to say we aren't a rich province - we're a province with a lot of rich people. The wealth is increasingly diverted to private pockets rather than spent on the public good.

Everyone I know who's paid out of pocket for a full-body scan has some...interesting views on health. And ultimately this drives up costs by flagging things that people then want to follow up in the public system, when more standard screens would not have raised it as a concern.

I'm reading a book on the "little ice age" in post-medieval Europe, and how witch trials and burnings correlated with severe weather, and the charges were often of using witchcraft to control the weather. Parallel to modern times where people accuse "eco-arsonists" of setting forest fires.

In Alberta we don't even really have a two-party system. Take Back Alberta had one key insight; if you want to create change, you have to take over the governing party. Centrists tried this with Redford, but didn't have the stamina for the long game and hung her out to dry

My hottest Calgary take is that we should get rid of the white hat "oath" for visiting VIPs. It's ultra cringe, makes us look like hicks, doesn't reflect authentic culture for most of us, and the hat is a pain for people to transport on a flight. Some traditions deserve to die.
