What's this mean for the IMLS? That we're going to see what we saw last year in that it'll be a last-minute series of hearings and debates over whether or not to pass the budget. I wouldn't be shocked if, like last year, the budget doesn't get passed in time. Deadline is September 30.

It's also perhaps worth noting that there's not yet guaranteed funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), either. It was approved by the House Appropriations Committee but the full House hasn't approved it yet–still sitting on calendar. www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

As for the Senate, they're in session this week before an August break. Right now, it does not appear that either S. 4925, nor HR 2616, are on the Senate HELP committee agenda for this week. What does this mean? Contact your Senators early and often, ESPECIALLY if they're on HELP.

BOOK BAN BILL THREAD FOR JULY 27. The House is not currently in session. Representatives are spending the next month working in their own home districts. What does this mean? We won't see action on three of the federal-level book ban bills. That also means go see these people IRL if you can.

It's true!! This is certainly a huge concern. Texas also not buying books for their libraries is having a tremendous impact on publishing. What happens there impacts almost everyone, no matter where they live.

I hope folks don't get taken by surprise when more required Bible reading starts happening in public schools in states outside of Texas. Because this isn't "Texas being Texas." This is Texas serving as the roadmap to how this will spread nationwide.
