I think people's idea of an insult comes from the idea that it being a memorization game makes it a weak or inferior Rhythm Game to something that's more about learning the ability to tackle a wide variety of note combinations.

I will say, competitive Pokemon will introduce you to some wild damage ranges where you think you get a kill, and it's not even like 25%, but many people like this come from the sp experience where levels can just bullshit you through basically anything.
