OTD 23 May 1809 20 🇩🇰🇳🇴 gunboats under LtCdr Schönheyder attacked a British convoy in the Great Belt escorted by 5 ships-of-the-line and 2 frigates. The frigate HMS Melpomene was nearly captured on off Omoe Island. She was seriously damaged and had to return to England for repairs. #Navalhistory
