Just a husband, father and U.S. Navy veteran in wine country trying to navigate through life...

21 years ago my friend Will died. 10 years ago we stayed with his parents for a week in Orlando. She cooked every day. Being Puerto Rican she showed me a few cooking tips, and introduced me to pigeon peas. This memory popped up from a year ago just after her passing ❤️

FB food memories: pulled pork tacos. If our kitchen wasn’t dismantled I’d make these again today. But I’ll settle for some local pizza!

Our last road trip we stayed over in SLC. The next day while driving by the flats we wondered what is going on way out there, so we drove out. Several thousand people there for a huge international amateur rocket competition. We stayed out there for hours. Amazing stuff.

Only two things she loves more than her hoomans: chicken and a ball.

I made a new batch of pickles (they’re in there, trust me). I ran out of white vinegar so I used apple cider vinegar instead. Added red onion and more garlic cloves.

Doubled in size, containment still at 20%. We were going to meet friends at a brewery later on today to enjoy some cold beers outside. I think that’s been scrapped. The smoke is shitty.

Talking tacos with a good friend the other day. He asked if I use flour tortillas. I said sometimes but we prefer corn. He said he doesn’t like the corn ones because of the texture. I asked if he’s ever fried them. He said he’d never tried that. I made these tonight and sent him this pic.

FB food memories: roasted chicken thigh covered in a killer chipotle sauce that the back kitchen guys made. Black beans, rice and garlic fries to round it out. Oh yeah, and salad 🙄

FB food memories: there’s an amazing little market 10 minutes down the road that has a full kitchen. Any pizza can be made into a calzone for no extra fee. Plus their wine selection is outstanding.

FB food memories: I’ve said that I’m a chicken thigh advocate, but this still is the greatest fried chicken (breast) sandwich I’ve ever had. I know it looks like nothing. But it’s not. Louie’s Hot Chicken in Louisville. Incredible.

A year ago today a bunch of the family (aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc) went to a Giants game. The game sucked, but we had a good time in the chilly San Francisco July weather while sipping on our $24 cups of hot chocolate. Pictured was the highlight of the night ❤️

FB food memories: Work lunch of arroz con pollo with garlic fries. I think this is right around the time I stopped adding salad and went with larger portions of beans & garlic fries. Salad was wasted space on the plate 🤷‍♂️😉

FB food memories: Pecan smoked & grilled pork spareribs.

Marinated all day in Ken’s Steakhouse Creamy Caesar (thinned with a can of Modelo) and grilled over mesquite. Then tossed with some Sweet Baby Ray’s Hickory & Brown Sugar bbq sauce. Delicious.
