UTA too! Which itself operates on a proof of payment system, lol. Guy who’s only been to one city insisting that <thing> can’t work because it’s not currently done in <his city> is one of my favorite bits. Seems to be most common with people from NYC and California.

The entire countries of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland operate busses, trams, and trains this way. No fare gates, no fare inspection on boarding. You’re just supposed to buy a ticket. Occasionally a fare inspector will board the vehicle, and if you haven’t paid the fare you will be issued a fine.
