My hot take is that the question of “what is the purpose of adaptation” has been flattened in the IP era where audiences are trained to expect films to replicate instead of interpolate.
Adam MallingerI'd find the blistering take of a translator more on point if THE ODYSSEY didn't work as a movie. But it does. I don't think viewing it through the lens of "Is this an accurate adaptation of translations made long after the fact" really says anything about storytelling or filmmaking
