Unglaublich.

No surprise. Governments that seek to maximise profits for the few, by all means, won't let anything stand on their way - be it nature, peoples' lives and wellbeing, or our future. Will the Albanian demonstrations expand? I'm looking forward to see, when the ''enough is enough'' moment comes.

"The Trump admin on Friday moved to open the habitats of imperiled animals to farming, drilling, mining, real estate development and other activities in what environmentalists characterized as the most severe erosion of protections for wildlife in half a century." www.nytimes.com/2026/07/10/c...

At #ECCB2026 we speak with concern about #FoodSecurity due to heat, droughts, pollinators' loss, soil erosion, etc. Meanwhile at X, DG Agri happily anounces a promising year for... oilseed, dairy, pigmeat, poultry. @ec.europa.eu didn't u shout food security? Can't u take your own claims seriously?

When politicians and policies fail, i.e. when upscaling of solutions is impossible, outscaling is an excellent alternative - namely replicating what works, instead of awaiting someone else to help. Same might be needed for #agroecology and, more broadly, sustainable agrifood systems.

The Nature Restoration Regulation contains risky exceptions and exemptions. Volker Mauerhofer reminds that NRR should be legally interpreted in the narrow sense, i.e. complementary to the BD and HD. Court will likely have an important role. #ECCB2026

At #ECCB2026, Stefan Kreft presents a MARISCO-based 'strategic situation analysis for European forest biodivetsity'. Are we bending the curve? No Are we going to meet the 'biodiversity positive' target by 2030? No.

Meeting Article 10 of the EU's Nature Restoration Regulation on pollinators requires coherence among several EU directives and policies - especially the CAP. 135 scientists call for urgent action on pollinators, far beyond bees, for the sake of food security. zenodo.org/records/2071...

Looking at the EU Stress Test on the Birds and Habitats Directives: Merely 11% of respondents <30 year old. Is it poor familiarity with EU policies? Or law awareness of what the Commission means when they say "simplification"? Hey, youngsters, it's about the quality of YOUR future.

The European Commission is placing the Birds & Habitats Directives under a "stress test" (while in parallel, losing grip on CAP and pesticides). The open consultation runs until 10.8.2026: ec.europa.eu/info/law/bet... Sor far 22 scientists (3.3%) contributed. Let's make science be heard too!

Brussels late night under major heat: the city stinks and people are melting. Under these conditions, the big signs all over the Parliament and around it could be read: ''Democracy inaction''. We all pay the price of COPI, the Cost Of Policy Inaction

Agriculture, gold mining, road expansion. Does it need mentioning that much of this is driven by soy for export as feed? People are quite literally eating the Amazon.

Mongabay

The Amazon lost 736,484 hectares of forest in 2025, according to a new MAAP analysis. While the data shows some positive year-on-year trends, illegal clearing remains a major threat inside protected areas. Driven by El Niño, looming heat waves and dry conditions could worsen the destruction.

In front of the European Parliament with our policy briefs: We plead for a better enabling environment for #agroecology. We need an ambitious CAP, a successful NRR and a food policy to complement them. Farmers need continuity and the right incentives. Read here 4 more: www.agroecology-transect.net

I ask IH members, what are your pleads for policymakers on #agroecology? Camille (Belgium): we need consistemcy, you can't say you want agroecology and not fund it or support it. Vyara (Bulgaria): agroecology is a priority on paper, not in reality. Make it real!

Does #agroecology deliver the benefits we anticipate for #biodiversity and climate? An intensive review finds 123 papers, (quite biased across Europe) indicates positive effects for most farming systems. Quite surprisingly, the positive effect was not dependent on the level of transition.

Very interesting figure for the UK. Also elsewhere in Europe, an increasingly large share of elders are determining the fates of the young. (The elder a person is, the longer the time since school). We might need to focus on how to help elders in updating their knowledge and being more responsible.

Wow. EU-Meinung im UK. Spannend. The kids are alright.

Pesticides affect both human & environmental health, yet the Commission neither conducted an Impact Assessment nor asked citizens or scientists what they think about loosening pesticide control. Dimitry Wintermantel summarized key concerns raised by scientists in an open letter here:

Led by Dimitry Wintermantel: we demonstrate that it will amplify rather than resolve shortcomings of current environmental risk assessment, with major risks to human health and the environment.

Yep. When we're accelerating with our car (wildly, in town), we're not asking if this is the new normal: our car will continue doing so until we stop pressing on the gas and changing gear. No equilibrium. We're pressing hard on Earth systems, and policymakers take too many decisions worsening it.
