Harvard paid McKinsey a quarter of a mill to tell them to sack loads of people in Arts and Hums! Nice work if you can get it! 🤡 www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

It cannot be said often enough that England and Wales in particular no longer possess many universities as governed from the c1960s to the c2000s. Many are now debt vehicles squeezed for remaining value by creditors and their proxy representatives. You have to see these things clearly.

More than half the trains on the board are delayed or cancelled. The other three are flashing with platform changes. 🇬🇧 👍
Glen O'HaraHey everyone! I'm on a train again! And after last week's debacles it's... late! My 0% punctuality run is still going!
This was all tried in the 1960s (e.g. in Leicestershire) as a parallel experiment to comprehensives. No-one liked it, it didn't really work.
Sam FreedmanNew post just out: "Burnham's first mistake" Splitting 14 year olds into academic and vocational paths seems intuitive. But it's a terrible idea that risks increasing inequality, and closing down options for the young people that need them most. (£/free trial) open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/b...
Can someone please just search up 'Lyndon Johnson Vietnam' in front of him? 🙄
ShipwreckUS Central Command (CENTCOM) has prepared a large-scale operation in the form of a decisive two-week bombing campaign should Trump choose escalation to break the deadlock in the Middle East, two sources confirmed.-NYP
We've been here so, so many times with this 'technical skills' argument, and the divide between lovely practical trades and silly old 'education'. For hundreds of years! And every time it proved to be... a load of old rope. Let's see this time shall we. theskillsagenda.substack.com/p/ministers-...
At the University of Dundee, there is 'no growth strategy apart from cuts'. Britain really is the thickest country in the world. www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/politics/...
The University of Surrey, which was built up to provide for advanced science and technology in the 1950s and 1960s, has been in difficulties since 2019 and is suppressing... science and maths. Britain really is the thickest country in the world. www.timeshighereducation.com/news/course-...
As we watch the really acute phase of Britain's university crisis begin, we should do much better at advising, training, counselling and supporting PhD students and postdocs to shift out of the sector and move into more sustainable and vibrant roles. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Taxpayers keep on piling loads of money into Higher Education. Then the government does this with it.

Hey, I've managed to get onto yet another train! Guess what? It's late.
Glen O'HaraThere's now crushing to get into the one train that has appeared in the extreme heat. The gate staff have had to open all the barriers but have still had to shout at everyone in the absolute melee of a crowd. It's horrible.
