Oh yeah I liked it a lot. Just have to accept that he’s using The Odyssey as a framework to tell his own story. And given the limitations of his stylistic choices - flat characters, a constant tone of seriousness and severity, etc - he gets as much out of the story as he can. Like I could nitpick …

What’s really amusing is how the movie is a deep philosophical take-down of MAGA —portraying xenophobia and inhospitality as shredding the social fabric, driving a return to barbarity— but they completely lack the awareness to detect it, instead focusing their grievances on superficial details.

My thought on this is Nolan was pandering to today’s audience, being exposed to sea people history infotainment content boosted by social media algos (or just himself being influenced by the same). Linking them to Trojan war vets/refugees was cool, and it builds on the anti-MAGA theme. But…
