Pretty good writer. Reasonably competent HusbandParentMusician. Passable teacher. Old, stubborn, and grumpy. Forever fighting book bans, ignorance, and cruelty. He/Him.

I got a 3/4 size arcade machine, and aside from Mortal Kombat it plays Joust, and that is the game I play most. 1) Jousting on the back of Ostriches? Fever dream level 1980’s creativity. 2) Omg. When the disembodied lava hands attack, I scream 😂😂😂

1982 Arcade Game joust is gonna become as integral to my online persona as werewolves And i will likely never get good at it

"Hardly Believable Score" Is there anything this man will not lie about?

Reading Titan Of The Stars, the @ekjohnston.bsky.social YA novel inspired by the idea of Alien meets the Titanic. And the way she captures the feeling of starting each new creative project… 🙌

Romantic comedy does not require, but should encourage, dinosaurs.

Doing another writing challenge and once again I'm given a romantic comedy prompt and I have to keep reminding myself that this genre doesn't require dinosaurs

Film you've watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR, Marvel, Disney, or Ghibli. Grosse Pointe Blank (just to keep with the Dan Aykroyd thing)

With my maternal grandparents, I'd be fresh from the Azores, working in a Fall River textile mill. Impossible noise and heat. And from breathing fabric particles and chemicals develop pulmonary fibrosis, and die for lack of breath. It was the same for my mom and aunts. So . . .

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?

The problem with auto-buy authors is I don’t read the book jacket descriptions, and just jump in. So today I was embarrassing far into Titan of the Stars @ekjohnston.bsky.social before realizing it was the Titanic disaster, and the iceberg is terrifying aliens devouring everyone. 😂😅😓 Love this.

Reminded of ENDLING by Maria Reva: In Ukraine, an eccentric scientist breeding rare snails crosses paths with sisters posing as members of the marriage industry to find their activist mother. As Russia invades, they embark on a wild journey with kidnapped bachelors and a last-of-its-kind snail.

Love this poem, My Revenge Era @thatlauraruby.bsky.social , and I too am waiting for the right one to die: “Diana has never been caught. Is revenge a cold dish, a boomerang, time plus pressure? Blood tastes like coins because it is tender. Nothing left but ash.”

One of the YA novels I teach in my 8th grade class is The Inexplicable Logic of My Life, and it is such a beautiful book. The story, the prose, the characters, and every page infused with his soul. I’m so sad about this loss. Benjamin Alire Sáenz Dies at 71 bookriot.com/benjamin-ali...

I was thinking this when I saw an NPR headline today that said: “Trump shattered ethics norms. Will voters trust Democrats to fix them?” Like, what?

When they’re doing well, the tone of coverage is triumphant. When they’re losing badly it’s covered like “our heroes are at their lowest point, how will they face this challenge?” Democrats are never covered this way. They’re the antagonists of the news.

brought my 15yo and her best friend to a job interview at the new movie theater opening in town. The number of parents accompanying their teens inside and filling out the applications for them… My god. Let them at least fake being independent and reliable.
