We should be strongly supporting the economic development of renewable resources in our country as it's clearly the future and is cheaper than fossil fuels, but there will be far more human suffering if we cause a recession by hamstringing our resource economy to reduce global emissions by 1 or 2%

Yes, our per capita emissions are terrible, but globally it's a rounding error. Why should we restrict our economic growth while the largest emitters are not. Either way the planet cooks, we'll just have fewer economic resources to deal with it.

If it's any consolation, it would be just as hot if Canada completely shut off the taps. Canada produces a tiny sliver of the worlds carbon emissions, and the countries consuming the most wouldn't be consuming less if we weren't producing.

I'm not disagreeing that that is the Republican base. I obviously agree. The fact remains that Republicans win elections because they are good at politics, especially grievance politics, and Dems lose because they are bad at politics. We shouldn't give them a pass because Rs are despicable

I knocked on doors and donated to Obama and Warren because I couldn't vote as a green card holder. After Biden barely beat Trump after his covid disaster it was clear that Dems were not going to be able to hold back the coming tide of fascism and I left before it could get worse.
