Atmospheric (grey, wet & cold) walk along the Chesterfield Canal #SK58

Looking forward to a great weekend! A few hours down the Chesterfield Canal tomorrow morning, a few errands then tea with my folks. On Sunday taking a group out for SK58 Birders.

Can anyone tell me if North Cave Wetlands is frozen solid? I.e everything displaced. Or is it still worth a trip tomorrow?

SK58 Year list not off to bad start. 75 after 15 hours birding over 2 days. A few highlights such as Hawfinch and a couple of spp which I saw on day 1 that eluded me during the whole of 2024 (Goosander & Brambling)

Pretty good day in SK58. Highlights of the 63 species include Peregrine, 59 Snipe, 9 Jack Snipe, Woodcock. Then a good mix of wildfowl inc. Goosander. Home for hot shower and a Sunday dinner (it is Wednesday right?)

Off out birding. Another coffee first! Chucking it down here in SK58 :-/

Anticipating kicking off my SK58 (10km square) list off in style. Although it’s a lousy weather forecast. Finished off this year on 115, 9 behind Mick Clay. Must do better this year- “work is the curse of the birding classes”

Just home from a great weekend in Norfolk. Quality birds/ birding, accommodation and food- and the weather wasn’t too bad. Home, unpack, a hot shower and hot food!
