I’m worried about my congressional district. Might be that together, the anti-genocide, no-superPAC, Medicaid-for-all candidates outdraw votes the nepo-baby AIPAC candidate, who goes on to actually win the primary.

JJ in DC

We vote for whoever won the party primary in the general. Staying home is not an option. There is too much at stake.

Blowing an ABS challenge in the first inning during an at-bat in which you walked anyway. That’s some Red-Sox-in-May gameplay, right there.

In some industries, there is a clearer separation betwn trade shows and consumer expos, but gaming, WotC especially, seems really bad about mixing the two. You have to pitch things to drum up excitement for retailers much earlier than you have to get end-users’ attention. Gamers listen to it all.

Future UB licensors need a clause in the contract that guarantees a breathing period of time for people to get excited about the new collaboration. All interest in this has fizzled out because of #MtGMBC scryfall.com/sets/mbc

When I was doing remote schooling, I read There Will Come Soft Rains with my students. Paired it with The Fun They Had by Asimov.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

Oh, man, I have some theories about why this is that make real futbol fans mad. Came to this theory watching England’s Premier League and feel stronger about it having seen so much World Cup. MLS is more fun to watch precisely *because* they suck. Fewer shots on goal happen when defense is good.

Gel ink refills for Cross/Schaefer pens. Cross ones clogged on me within six weeks, long before all the ink is gone. Knockoffs from Amazon never do, and are a tenth the price.

What is your favorite example of when the cheap version of a product is legit better than the expensive one?

You can all relax. The bat is back outside.

My mutant power is being able to find 4-leaf clovers. I’m pretty reliable at it, so I press them, frame them, and give them as gifts. When Joanne’s was closing, I bought a ton of frames on clearance. Haven’t found a single 4-leaf clover since. Yet another way private equity has ruined things.

Behold my glorious clover

In my homebrew TTRPG world, there’s a fibrous reed that grows in swamps that they use to make paper, but the fibers can also be used for rope or clothing (after the wizard school burned down and the market for paper crashed). It’s mosquito-plagued work harvesting it.

I’m gonna say virtually all authors need to get serious about textiles. Who is weaving them? Out of what? Who’s turning them into clothes and how much does it cost and do you have any idea how HARD all of that was before modern mills

What’s for dinner?

My LGS does Mystery drafts a couple times a year, so here’s hoping that continues to be somewhat available.

Bobbie-Christine Brewer

God please just print Mystery Booster Commander into the ground. I just want to have fun with really cool box of cards 😢

I’m curious whether Loreley was already on NDA for Mystery 3 here and had to dig even deeper to post about shit that wasn’t in the set, or if this was her audition for the job (only 14 months ago, they work on sets farther out that that, right?).

Loreley Weisel-Librizzi

Teeka (of Teeka's Dragon) is a big one. She's a master artificer whose inventions get stolen by Planeswalkers because they're so effective in battle. Vram is a mercurial Planeswalker whose reckless selfishness destabilizes her life, the lives of everyone around her, and every place she visits.

MCU right from the start was a silk purse from a sow’s ear because Marvel had sold off the film rights to all of their most popular heroes, so their B- and C-list was all that had left.

Movies Silently

Also, comic book people WAY overestimate how much the public at large knows or cares about comic book characters. Antman, Captain Marvel, even Thor would have been met with blank stares.

Happy birthday @gamefiend.bsky.social.

Let the record show that the witness has pulled the back of counsel’s underwear all the way up over his head.

“I don’t comprehend the internal inconsistencies which seem to have been so forcibly impressed upon your mind” is such a gentle yet steely way to say “ok so yeah you’re full of shit”
