This is how I feel about Silo which has terrible dialogue for what considers itself a prestige show that even the show’s many incredible actors cannot save it

Sometimes the best policy is the less effective one that’s popular as is the case with city run grocery stores. The reason for that is because it helps get elected so that more effective policies can be implemented in other areas. As long as it’s not actively harmful who gives a shit!

Doesn’t matter how good your policy is if you can’t get elected and implement that policy and, just as importantly, keep it implemented. Evidence based policy has been completely poisonous for dems because it made them think they didn’t need to engage in the messy, humanness of politics.

Even in this article’s headline they conflate the two

Because the world was trending better in ‘09 and now it’s trending worse and people are funneling their distress about that into economic sentiment because that’s mostly what we measure

Also many times the better policy is one that’s less effective but more popular so freaking about this pretty minor intervention because it’s not optimal is pointless

My dislike for evidence based policy and technocracy is hard won since I used to be a policy researcher who did this work. Left the field in ‘18 because in was clear even then that it was a political loser so the continued peddling of the Chart Life ethos in ‘26 is amazing.

The entire point of nominating someone like Craig, who believes in absolutely nothing, is that my vote shouldn’t matter to getting her elected, hypothetically there should be three racists in Blaine who are dying to vote for her that outweigh my one vote. Go talk to them!

A funny phenomenon that holds at every level of govt is that the more conservative candidate gets to be more openly unhinged than the progressive one and at the local level when two dems are competing this means the moderate one will act in a way they would otherwise condemn

We really haven’t grappled with Roe going away. There isn’t a blueprint for a world where existing rights are taken away. Technocrats can’t wrap their heads around a world where that is happening alongside abundant consumerism.

This also very easy to understand for anyone who wants to understand it and has even a rudimentary knowledge of human behavior. That so many persist in not understanding it is a choice (or they’re stupid, always an option)
